ML: BBG-BBGM to Seek Empire State Building’s First LEED (CI) Rating
Brennan Beer Gorman Architects / Brennan Beer Gorman Monk Interiors (”BBG-BBGM”), designers of LEED Silver hopeful 330 Hudson Street, announced last week that it will move from 515 Madison Avenue into a new LEED Silver headquarters of its own. The firm will execute a green fit out of 32,000 square feet of space on the entire 25th floor of the Empire State Building under USGBC’s LEED for Commercial Interiors system. Green features will be replete throughout the space; BBG-BBGM has inked a 15-year lease for which terms were undisclosed.
The space is designed to capture as much natural light as possible and features a white and gray color scheme. Its ceilings will be partially exposed and the firm will install the Ahrend benching system and ergonomic seating and desk lights from Humanscale. Automatic window shades and fluorescent lamps with LEDs will help BBG-BBGM keep energy consumption at 15 percent below ASHRAE standards. Bathrooms will also feature low-flow and motion-sensor appliances and hand driers. EnergyStar equipment will be individually submetered to allow the firm to benchmark, monitor, and ultimately optimize the office’s performance.
Other green features will include low-VOC paints and adhesives, recycled-content materials, certified wood floors, Interface carpet tiles, Ecophon fiberglass ceiling tiles and wall coverings, and custom strawboard millwork. No construction or occupancy timetable appears to be currently available. BBG-BBGM has been headquartered at 515 Madison since its inception back in 1984.

Favorite Book 2007
The Toyota Way is my favorite book for 2007. It had so many good ideas that I could not keep up and ended up reading it again and even buying the Field Book to go along with it.
