Construction Conference in Minnesota
Tomorrow morning, bright and early, I leave for St. Cloud, Minnesota, where it is 189 degrees below zero. Do you know how cold that is?
I will be participating in the 2008 Builders Expo conference sponsored by the Central Minnesota Builders Association. I start the conference off with the first class at 8 am on Markup, Margins and Cash Flow, and follow it with three more classes throughout the day. Long day, but I know it will be fun.
There will be several other classes during the day, classes on codes, Green building, fall protection and lead abatement and over 60 exhibitors there to display their goods and services. I was told a week ago there are over 250 contractors registered. That is a lot of smart businesspeople congregating to work on their business.
These contractors are doing what they need to do to stay in business. They are working on their education. Education is the one guarantee that you have that you will stay in a construction related business. Reading for an hour each day, attending a class or a seminar, networking with others in this business is education.
If you are near St. Cloud, might give the CMBA a call and see about attending the Expo. If you aren’t in the area, why not figure out how to have an event like this in your town?

Favorite Book 2007
The Toyota Way is my favorite book for 2007. It had so many good ideas that I could not keep up and ended up reading it again and even buying the Field Book to go along with it.
Download Elegant Solutions from Change This which provides some highlights of the Toyota Production System. Too many ideas that are applicable to contractors to even count!
